SUMMARY:MASON JENNINGS @ ICON EVENTS
DESCRIPTION:Minneapolis songwriter Mason Jennings shares his new video for the single\, “Only Lovers Welcome” from his brand new album\, Underneath The Roses out now via Loosegroove Records.\nUnderneath The Roses is available on limited-edition colored vinyl and is available here.  Watch and share the video for “Only Lovers Welcome” below.   \nJennings writes that the songs from Underneath The Roses were\, “Written in an unprecedented burst\,” following the birth of his son\, Western\, in March 2022. Jennings explains\, “I hadn’t written any songs in about a year. I had been dealing with the psychological after effects of the pandemic as well as the loss of my dad. So\, when Western was born I didn’t expect to be writing much. But immediately he was responding to music in a very intense way. For this album\, between May and November 2022\, I wrote 48 songs! They certainly uplifted me and connected me with the creative spirit\, and spirit in general\, again. They cover all kinds of ground but\, when I listen back\, I think the central theme is overcoming fear with love.” \nJennings also released a video for\, “No Ordinary Friend\,” which he explains\, “Depicts two of the most important decisions a person can make. One\, whether or not they believe in a loving higher power and two\, who they decide to choose as a life long romantic partner. This song is referring to both of those and the choices I’ve made.”\n\nJenning’s previous album ‘Real Heart’ came out in January 2022 and received Triple/Non-comm radio across KCMP Minneapolis\, WFPK Louisville\, WPYA Birmingham\, KRCL Salt Lake City\, WMMM Madison\, WQKL Ann Arbor\, KCSN LA\, KRVB Boise\, WCLZ Portland\, WDSE Duluth\, WRLT Nashville\, WXPN Philly\, WXRV Boston\, & WZEW Mobile. \nPress highlights include: American Songwriter\, Relix\, No Depression\, Grateful Web\, Take Effect 9/10 review\, & Jam Bands\n\nJennings adds “I called it Underneath The Roses because I feel like these songs are musical roses and when I look below them there are many thorns and so much dirt and soil. All of it was needed for them to come into existence and bloom. It’s been a long hard road of self-discovery and discernment for me the last few years and the roses wouldn’t be here without what lies underneath. Hope you enjoy the music!”  \n \nFacebook RSVP + More Info \nFriday\, May 24th\nICON Events\n8:00 Door | 9:00 Show \nw/ Chewy Rodgriguez

SUMMARY:NEIL HAMBURGER @ ICON
DESCRIPTION:“America’s Funnyman” Neil Hamburger has worked every imaginable stage\, from New York’s Madison Square Garden\, to a show in pitch black darkness at the Edin- burgh Fringe Fest. He has performed countless American\, Australian\, British\, Irish\, and Canadian tours\, as well as in Norway\, New Zealand\, and the Bahamas\, along- side acts ranging from Faith No More to Robin Williams. His TV credits include Tim and Eric Awesome Show\, Tom Green Live\, and Jimmy Kimmel Live. His Live At Third Man album was produced by Jack White in Nashville; an earlier Hamburger effort was included in SPIN’s “40 Greatest Comedy Albums Of All Time.” The fea- ture movie Entertainment\, a dramatic look at Hamburger on- and off-stage co-star- ring John C. Reilly\, Tye Sheridan\, and Michael Cera\, premiered at the Sundance and Locarno Film Festivals\, and was released in 2015 to rave reviews. His recent Drag City album of lavishly-produced song\, Still Dwelling\, featured a memorable trio version of Jesus Christ Superstar’s “Everything’s Alright” with Neil singing alongside Mike Patton and Jack Black. \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nFeaturing : Chris Crofton \n \nChris Crofton started performing comedy after he graduated from college in 1991. He moved to New York City from Connecticut and appeared at open mics around the city: Stand Up NY\, The West End\, Rose’s Turn\, New York Comedy Club\, The Village Gate\, and Gladys’s Comedy Room at Hamburger Harry’s. Crofton was also writing songs at this time. Following the release of his critically acclaimed first album\, The Alcohol Stuntman\, on Stylus Records\, he moved to Nashville to pursue music. \nFrom 2001 up to the present\, he has performed and recorded with Chris Crofton The Alcohol Stuntband. Known as much for Crofton’s between-song comments as the music\, The Alcohol Stuntband has played with The Black Keys\, Rocket From the Tombs\, Richard Lloyd\, Lucero\, Danko Jones\, The Paybacks and many\, many\, more. From 2005 to 2009 Crofton hosted the now-legendary “Best of Bread” radio show on Nashville’s WRVU\, a weekly program in which he and his brother Greg mixed topical and absurd commentary with 70s soft-rock classics. Crofton is also an award-winning actor who has appeared in numerous independent films. \nIn 2006\, a local comedian asked Crofton to try standup again for fun. After performing for 10 years with The Alcohol Stuntband\, Crofton had developed a remarkable ease onstage\, and his topical palette had expanded dramatically. These qualities combined with Crofton’s unique perspective to create a comedy monster. His style mixes the social commentary of Richard Pryor and Bill Hicks\, the absurdity of Steve Martin\, and the pacing and stage presence of Lenny Bruce. In 2007\, Crofton was invited to open for Neil Hamburger in Nashville. Hamburger was impressed with his set and arranged for him to open a show for Bob Odenkirk and Louis CK at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in Los Angeles. In 2009\, after seeing his standup\, Harmony Korine cast Crofton in his film Trash Humpers and brought him to select cities to perform comedy prior to screenings. Later in 2009\, after WRVU’s lamented demise\, Crofton adapted the Best of Bread broadcast into the popular weekly podcast “The Chris Crofton Show.” \n+ The Husky Hearthrob: Tim Jastram\nTim is a local comedian that will capture your heart’s funny bone. A family man with a mysterious past with a story or two about life and its haunting reminder to look at the bright side of things. If Tim had last words it would be as a reminder to remember to wash your hands!\n  \n\n\n\nWednesday\, May 15th\, 20248:00 PM – 10:00 PM CSTIcon Event Hall402 N Main #dtsfFacebook event & more info** All seating first-come first-serve

SUMMARY:PROF @ THE DISTRICT
DESCRIPTION:Door open at 7:00 \nw/ Juice Lord\, Bayo\, Willie Wonka\, & James1stGen \nWith lyrical skill matched only by his raucous live shows\, Prof has arrived on the national stage. Coming out of Minneapolis\, Minnesota\, Prof has perfected the art of combining blue collar hard work and unimpeachable content with never taking himself too seriously. His seventh studio album\, Horse\, due out on his own Stophouse Music Group label April 14\, 2023\, is set to let the world at large in on a secret that music fans already know\, Prof is a force to be reckoned with. \nHis most recent album\, Powderhorn Suites\, shocked pundits and industry alike with an amazing run through the charts and streaming platforms. Released in November\, 2020\, Powderhorn Suites reached a career-high #3 on the Billboard Current Rap Albums charts\, #5 Top New Artists Albums\, #15 Independent Album\, and #36 Billboard Top Albums. What followed has been a masterclass in making it as an independent artist; Prof leaned into the fantastical tales and dynamic persona that have cultivated his rabid fan base. He reclaimed his outlets\, going from zero Youtube followers to over 160\,000 subscribers in under two years. Following the Powderhorn Suites album\, Prof notched his biggest year to date in 2022\, racking up over 140 Million streams of his catalog and performing 30 sold out shows across the country. \nHorse is the culmination of his personal Rocky training montage\, but you can’t call it a comeback\, because Prof’s numbers have only ever gone up. Horse is a powerful record\, showcasing his singular drive and the weirdness of real life that has propelled Prof to the pinnacle of the independent rap music world\, bringing his legions of “Gampos”\, as his fans are affectionately known\, alongside him. Horse’s 14 tracks include a heavyweight cast of features\, from Method Man on “Subpar”\, to Kevin Gates’ big sound gracing “Devils Gate”\, and a brilliant appearance from Redman on “Pack a Lunch”. Prof’s contemporaries have clearly noticed the ever growing Gampo movement bursting out of the Twin Cities. Cozz and Mac Irv also appear on the album\, which was produced by Prof alongside a small cadre of close collaborators. \nProf will follow up the release of Horse with a 30 city headline tour\, hitting marquee live music venues like Cervantes in Denver & The Sylvee in Madison\, along with some key festival appearances over the summer. Riding life sized carpets over his massive crowds and leaving it all on the stage\, Prof’s live shows have always been more than a concert\, they are an experience. As the audiences grow and his production evolves\, Prof has moved from survival mode to takeover mode\, and one thing is for sure\, Prof thrives on the biggest stage. \nFacebook RSVP + More Info

SUMMARY:THE QUEERS
DESCRIPTION:The Queers\nw/ Donnybrook Brawlers & Red Maker\nat Club David\n7pm Doors\n21+\n$15 adv \nThe Queers are a pop-punk/punk rock band from Portsmouth\, New Hampshire\, formed in 1982. Singer/Guitarist/Songwriter Joe King has been the principal member of the group\, with a vast number of musicians cycling in and out of the band over the years. Supposedly\, the band name ‘Queers’ was used simply to poke fun at what he called the “Art F*g” community in NH. That same brand of humor and inanity has become a staple of The Queers music\, who have produced songs such as “Can’t Stop Farting“\, “Born To Do Dishes“\, and “I Didn’t Get Invited To The Prom” in their own Ramones-esque style. While some punk rock bands attempt to use their music to impart a social or political message\, King has made it clear that The Queers exist simply to play punk rock for the fun of it. \nFacebook RSVP
